Jongole Mitin Mashi rewiew: Gripping tale on eco-conservation

Director Arindam Sil is back in this year’s Durga Puja with his new movie ‘Jongole Mitin Mashi’ featuring Koel Mallick in lead role. This movie is the sequel of ‘Mitin Mashi'(2019).

Director: Arindam Sil

Key Actors: Koel Mallick, Subhrojeet Dutta, Lekha Chatterjee, Asim Roychowdhury, Kamalika Banerjee

Duration: 2 hours

Bengali movie: Jongole Mitin Mashi

Story: The story revolves around Pragya Paramita Mukherjee a.k.a. Mitin Mashi(played by Koel Mallick)- who is a private detective. In this movie, she confronts animal poachers in the Saranda Forest. She is aided by her niece Oindrila(played by Kamalika Banerjee). This movie explores the theme of eco-conservation. While her relatives are enjoying the jungle adventure, Mitin along with her niece Oindrila are in a mission to track down the poachers who are illegally hunting the animals.

Pros: Director Arindam Sil has presented the story in a very captivating way, just like the previous movie of this series. Koel Mallick again portrays the character of Mitin in a convincing manner. As a detective, she deploys her intelligence, deduction ability as well as her black-belt skill effortlessly. The camaraderie between Mitin and her niece is really wonderful in this film. Subhrojeet Dutta (as Partho, the husband of Mitin) has minor role to play- which he has done well. Other actors have also played their roles justifiably well.

The music by Bickram Ghosh is absolutely fantastic. The screenplay by Padmanabha Dasgupta is eqally remarkable.

Cons: Though the theme of this movie is deforestation, wildlife preservation, etc- these issues seem to have lesser intensity than one might expect. The poachers should have been more scary because Mitin is more capable than simply hunting the hunters.

Conclusion: In this year’s Durga Pujo, Arindam Sil has come up with a new concept in this film- which is commendable because we rarely see such a topic in mainstream movies. Just like the male investigators, Mitin Mashi proves she too can enact change through determination and valor. ‘Jongole Mitin Mashi’ conveys the message of wildlife preservation through empowered women in a fascinating way. Hats off to the director and scriptwriter Arindam Sil for presenting a woman detective on the big screen with a compelling story. This movie should be watched by all.
