Mission Ranigang film review:

Less known but worthy Indian movies

Director: Tinu Suresh Desai

Key Actors: Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra,  Pawan Malhotra, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Ravi Kishan

Runtime: 2 hr 18 min.

Story:

‘Mission Raniganj’ portrays the heroism of Additional Chief Mining Engineer Jaswant Singh Gill (played by Akshay Kumar) who led the rescue mission to evacuate 65 trapped miners at the Raniganj Coalfields in 1989. The rescue effort went on for three days.  How he along with some other members pulled off this daring rescue mission despite natural and human obstacles is the story of this biopic thriller.

Pros:

Director Tinu Suresh Desai’s constructive narrative is remarkable. The manner in which the story unfolds will keep you hooked all along. Akshay Kumar plays the larger-than-life persona of Gill in a very convincing manner. Kumud Mishra, Pawan Malhotra as supporting cast has played their role very well. Dibyendu Bhattacharya as a pessimist, cynical mining officer who is against the rescue mission- is simply too good in his role. Parineeti Chopra as Nirdosh Kaur the wife of Jaswant Gill, has little screentime- which she does very gracefully.

The background music by Sandeep Shirodkar is quite good and match the mood of each scene.

Apart from that, the length of the movie is not so long- which keeps the audience attentive.

Cons:

In ‘Mission Raniganj’, Akshay is overwhelmingly at the centre of the story and all other characters revolve around him. It might give the impression that it was a one-man mission and not teamwork. Songs are not so catchy, perhaps a few songs were not needed in such a film.

Conclusion:

‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue’  keeps you on the edge of your seats at many scenes. The task of rescuing was so challenging, dangerous, and almost impossible that Gill’s endeavour became history in itself. This inspiring thriller biopic is a great tribute to Jaswant Singh Gill. Though there are several over-the-top moments in the movie, it never deviates from the core story. Overall, it is an inspiring movie that depicts a story of courage and hope against all odds is an inspiring experience for sure.
