Story: The story of ‘Jaane Jaan’ is about a single mother, Maya D’souza, a.k.a. Soniya D’souza (Kareena Kapoor). She works in a cafe to take care of her daughter, Tara D’souza (Naisha Khanna). They live in Kalimpong. Maya doesn’t like her husband, Ajit. Hence, they live separatly even before Tara was born. Naren Vyas(Jaideep Ahlawat) is the neighbour of the D’souzas. He is a school teacher, who secretly loves Maya. One day, Ajit Mhatre appears in Kalimpong and pays a visit to Maya’s house. She thinks he came for money, which is not true. Eventually, Maya kills Ajit, and her daughter Tara assists with the crime. Naren helps Maya to cover it up. Why did she kill her husband? Did Maya, Tara, and Naren get captured by the cops? Watch the movie to find this.

Pros: Sujoy Ghosh’s direction is remarkable. Jaideep displayed his skills very well. He, as a maths-genius, gave a fantastic performance. Likewise, Kareena is also a terrific actor, and she brought all her talent to the table. Here, Vijay Varma, as a police officer, presented a wonderful performance. He has been playing negative roles for quite a long time. So, it is refreshing to see him in a different mode in ‘Jaane Jaan’.

The duration of the movie is moderate (139 minutes), which makes the film tolerable to the viewers.

Cons: Certainly, a segment of viewers can find the similarities between ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Jaane Jaan’ – the way in which the alibis are presented to cover up the murder has a striking resemblance. Though the first half is slow, the second half of the film is relatively better, and there are some twists. However, the movie ends in an abrupt manner without providing answers to a few questions.

Conclusion: Overall, ‘Jaane Jaan’ is an average crime thriller. Since, the audience is quite familiar with the story of ‘Drishyam’, the production house should have come up with some original ideas.
