Bollywood remakes | Bollywood remakes of old films

As we know, Bollywood has a long tradition of borrowing ideas from Hollywood and sometimes from regional movie industries. However, Bollywood sometimes turn to its own movies to make the remade versions of them. Many such remakes did not work well. But a few remade movies have been received well by the audience. Here are a few examples of Bollywood remakes – both good and bad.

Bollywood remakes of old films:

Karz

Bollywood remakes of its own films

Director Subhash Ghai’s Karz was a blockbuster in 1980. Rishi Kapoor was praised for his role in this musical fim. Not only the songs were fantastic, but also was the story of the movie.

Karzzzz

Bollywood remakes of its own films

Yes there are four Z’s at the end of the movie’s name. Just like the weird spelling, this movie is weird as well. Himesh Reshamiya is nowhere close to Rishi Kapoor in terms of acting and charisma. Urmila Matondkar could not pull any crowd either. Karzzzz is one of the bizarre movies in 2008 with insipid songs like ‘Tandoori Night’.

Umrao Jaan(1981)

The original Umrao Jaan was released in 1981. That movie was directed by Muzaffar Ali and Rekha played the title character. The movie impressed the audience and earned almost Rs 90 lakh which was huge sum at that time.

Devdas(2002)

Bollywood remakes of its own films

In 2002, when Sanjay Leela Bhansali made ‘Devdas’, the comparison of his movie with that of 1955 was inevitable. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made the movie so well that it might be regarded as his magnum opus. Shahrukh-Aishwarya-Madhuri trio did not only justice to the characters but also elevated their status in the eyes of audience. This ‘Devdas’ is undoubtedly the best remake of Bollywood’s own classic films.
